Leveraging Facebook the Right Way No comments yet
Applications are an amazing tool for leveraging the Facebook network and add a viral extension to your business. However, there are thousands of applications on Facebook with more and more popping up everyday. Facebookers are experiencing application fatigue. I see my profile as a form of personal brand/online real estate. Each application takes a little bit of that online real estate so it better be damn useful if I’m going to include in on my profile. Also, creating an application is costly. Today there are agencies that focus just on making these applications and they charge big bucks. A well-built application can go for 20-50k.
Some useful tips for social media marketers using Facebook:
1. If a blogger you are trying to reach out to has a link to his Facebook profile on his blog, try messaging him on Facebook rather than e-mailing him. I assure you that he will probably get back to you sooner if at all.
2. Does your influencer participate in any groups or does he moderate any groups that are relevant to what you are trying to pitch? If so, you can hit a one two punch by having him raise brand awareness of your client in his blog and his Facebook group. The Facebook group is often a more active forum as well.
3. Say the blogger doesn’t have an e-mail listed on his blog…Look him up on Facebook. If there are multiple people with his name, double check on LinkedIn.
4. Don’t be a Facebook spammer. That’s just low. And you will get kicked out of Facebook because they can report you. Make sure that they are truly interested in what you got. Custom you pitch. Read their blog and find a relevant post to refer to.
I just recently started doing this…Initially I thought it was too invasive. Results have been positive. In most cases they are more likely to respond to you on Facebook than via e-mail. We often get lost in the e-mail shuffle. While on Facebook we are much more visible and personal.
Advice: Make sure your profile is completely public (let them see who you are) and do not friend someone you are trying to pitch unless you have established a content-sharing relationship.
